Four Possible INTJ Subtypes

EMBTI (Enneagram and MBTI Correlation)

As you all know, I have the utmost confidence in the MBTI. Cognitive functions are fascinating and revealing to the way we operate socially, personally, professionally, and intimately. However, I notice quite often how differently my fellow INTJs are from one another. No, I’m not talking about the fiasco about the cognitive function test the other day when most people were pissed about cognitive priority equating to INTP. It just seems that we may have different flavors.

Subtypes seemed like an option when I was reading about narcissist categories. I connected that thought to the Enneagram and the different wing types. This describes a standard type to take on some of the attributes either before or after the number. I have taken a few different Enneagram tests with the results: 1w9, 5w6, and mostly 5w4. While looking for actual data, I found the following chart from a recent study:

As I’ve mentioned before, I’m tired of reading repetitious information about INTJs. It’s time for new and creative ideas derived from everything we know about personality and behavior. I will now present the Four INTJ Subtypes.

The Purist

(1w9)

The most perfectionistic of the INTJs. Of the four subtypes, they are the most practical and disciplined. Purists’ standards are high of themselves and strive for excellence. Although not as introverted as other INTJs, they only want to be surrounded with people of a similar caliber. Unfortunately, this mode of thinking may leave a shortage of people to socially interact with. Others may see them as cold and driven. In fact, they have the ability to use failure towards evolution.

Because INTJs are known for future planning and finding connections, this type creates a system within the self to reach higher goals of a superior life. At their worst, they can be too critical of themselves and judgmental of others.

The Diplomat

While maintaining the general idea of how an INTJ operates, this subtype is more of a caring and nurturing variety. Diplomats want to extend or advocate created systems from obtained knowledge made through connections. This type may have a family or a cause which they apply their ability to realize patterns or teach knowledge.

This type is heavily motivated and extensive to whatever they have dedicated themselves to. Although they may be reserved in nature, they have a powerful voice that they activate through other resources. Spiritual growth highlights thoughts and insights to the world around them.

Diplomats may be afraid that they won’t be able to contribute something important or be appreciated. They have a passion for something ideal that comes from within and it drives them intensely.

The Arcanist

A cerebral INTJ that is more engrossed in the realm of thought. Seemly more eccentric that the other INTJ subtypes, they couldn't care less about conventions. This overall attitude conflicts with an ability to fit in whereas the Purist (1w9) and Diplomat (1w2) may blend into their surroundings due to their more practical appearance.

This type is less concerned with appearances because many of them have a focal point where the mind is absorbed with abstract theory or thought. Possibly, they have more of an artistic flair, these INTJs may write (fiction or nonfiction), have musical ability, or something that may set them apart with more of a strangeness than the other subtypes. They tend to be imaginative, aloof, and quiet.

Arcanist need time and quiet to reflect. This allows them to fully process while using intuition. At times, they may fluctuate from being disconnected from internal emotions and being overwhelmed by them.

The Genius

This INTJ is automatically perceived as an intellectual. The Genius has at least one area of study in which they are experts but they usually are well versed in other fields. Time and personal space is important to all INTJs but it is a theme and constantly on the mind of this subtype. They are clearly objective and unhindered by emotions. These traits allow them to conceive data and use it efficiently. They may fear being engulfed by crowds and are very sensitive to noise. Recharging is not a luxury, it is a necessity.

Geniuses are the most introverted of the INTJ subtypes and would prefer conversations that are deep and engaging to their intellect. Being cynical and dry-witted often leaves them misunderstood unless they associate with others of the same mind-set.  The Genius is mostly withdrawn and hides vulnerability. They stand back and observe. This allows them to see far more than what the five senses provide. A world-view is a primary mode of perception and details are consciously and subconsciously gathered for its construction.

So which type are you?

Copy and Pasted Personality

Have you ever read an INTJ description? Have you ever read multiple INTJ descriptions? Have you ever read an INTJ description that you found on the 32nd page of a Google search?

They are all the same.

INTJs are hard-working, independent, emotionless, single-minded, original, "Spock-like", strategic, analytical...blah...blah...

Don't misunderstand me, INTJs should have a few striking resemblances. The main one and most importantly should be:

INTROVERTED INTUITION

Now I've scoured through some reputable sources to bring this to you. Some Norwegian guy's, Gisle Henden, 189 paged dissertation titled, Intuition and its Role in Strategic Thinking, had made some valid points worth mentioning. In this excerpt, he paraphrases Westcott and associates Jung's Typology. Check it out:

Intuition vs. Analysis

As I mentioned in the beginning of my blog, many INTJ descriptions include "analytical". My eyes would just stare at that word because I never really considered myself to be analytical. This is more of an ISTJ attribute with their ability to sense. Thankfully, my chosen read went into extensive detail, comparing the two. Check out this chart:

Rapid and non-sequential processing and paying little attention to my environment. Tiny mistakes that are usually the same and even. High confidence in answer but low in method.

The Seductive Coquette

This is the third post I’ve written in reference to Robert Greene’s Book, The Art of Seduction. Yes, it fascinates me till no end. While whisking through the words of comparable history of the darkest intent, I saw myself as one of the nine seducers. The description reminds me of comments made about my own demeanor. Not just how I behave in a relationship, but how my personality type is portrayed. The very seductress I am referring to is The Coquette. 

She is hot and cold. At one end of the spectrum, showing passion and fire and shifting to the cold and despondent. The historical significance of Josephine as the coquette and how driven Napoleon became as a result, gives the reader a clearer picture of its operation. She was cold in her correspondence and hardly prompt at replies. Sounds a bit like how I respond to phone calls and texts. The coquette is self-sufficient and never jealous. The victim samples a taste of captivating desire and is then doused with ice-cold indifference. From what I understand, this will drive a man mad with desire. He has to have this self-sufficient woman with her cat-like independence and confident ways.

But I’m not trying to seduce anyone, this is just how I am. In fact, you’ll find that most INTJs are this way. As an introvert, I need to recharge. Even if I am really into someone, I will back away. Also, when I’m and NOT into someone, I will back away. This creates problems at times, stalkers and obsessive types become entranced or mesmerized. It is a real eye opener to understand the seductive effective this can have.

After reading the entire book, I was disappointed that there wasn’t a direct correlation of what seducer/victim types are most commonly attracted. Greene does indicate that one should not seduce someone of the same type. Napoleon was The Conqueror victim type, a type I am not particularly fond of but have found myself trying to end those types of relationships. This being said any relationship involving an extrovert makes me want to bash my head into something obliterating. The Rescuer is easy to attract because a self-sufficient attitude may prevail, there is always a troubling situation in paradise that one may need saving from. I find the rescuer too controlling and aggravating.

Now that I am thinking about it, I wonder which victim type I find worthy of seducing.

(Not that I would ever do such a thing.)

Victim Theory and the MBTI: Which Victim Type is the INTJ?

In response to my post,The Narcissist Game, a reader made a comment about how the victim types correlate with the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator. The victim types are from Robert Greene's book The Art of Seduction. There are eighteen types that nine seducer types target. Here is a link to the eighteen victim types.

 The other victim types are more difficult to match with a particular MBTI type. After some analyzing, this is my theory on the rest.

The Reformed Rake or Siren- Former seducers that have become old, attached, or disfigured

could be any Extroverted type.

The Crushed Star- Another Extroverted type that was once the center of attention.

The Pampered Royal- This type is sensory driven, so any Sensing type.

The Novice- “Seductive language” and “colorful events appeal to their sensitive senses”. Either the ST or NT core type seem to fit this category.

The Exotic Fetishist- Exotic and different. Because this type strays away from convention, the Intuitive type would be a proper fit.

The Beauty- The Beauty wants to been admired for something other than aesthetics because beauty dies. Concerned about the future leads to an association with Intuitive types preferably ones with the Fi function. This could also hold true for a Sensing type with Fi.

1^st Choices: INTJ, INFP, ENFP, ENTJ.

2^nd Choices: ISTJ, ESTJ, ISFP, ESFP.

The Roué- They have had the good life. Their worldliness hides their sentimentality. I would think this would be any type with Fi in the Tertiary or Inferior cognitive position.

ISTJ, INTJ, ESTJ, ENTJ.

The Idol Worshiper- The obsessive and devout. I tend to think of the agents of change INTJ and INFJ, but this could be anyone.

The Lonely Leader- This would be leader types that are thinking and judging types. Feeling types are more social and less lonely. INTJ, ISTJ, ENTJ, ESTJ.

The Floating Gender- INFJ is a feminine personality so whenever this type is a male and INTJ is a male personality so maybe when this type is a female. This is just a thought but this could be anyone.

According to the combined speculation, INTJ could fit into ten out of the eighteen types.

Intuition versus Fear

My inner voice can be a little bitchy and sarcastic. As far back as I can remember, this guidance has served me in many ways. This voice has kept me out of trouble, made me reflect on something specific for relevance, answered questions, directed focus to find ideas or information, and allows me to process the world around me in a way I can understand.

When I was younger, I was rebellious and careless. I would put myself in dangerous situations and glide past horrendous obstacles. Today, I exercise great caution and only take risks with statistically viable outcomes. Staying out of trouble has always been a concern of mine because chaos has an interesting way of finding me. My life has drastically changed in the last twenty years. Although it can be difficult, I cannot avoid change. Divorce, single-parent child birth, going back to college, switching majors, and changing jobs (schools). I didn't avoid the difficult changes out of fear because these changes chose me and pulled me towards a projected goal

When I don't listen to intuition, I feel it.

Positive change- A welling inside of my chest.
Negative change- (caution) a punch in the stomach.
Aha moment- Splash of water.
Environment Focus- Pulling on the head to physically take notice. Hearing something before hand.

Positive Change

When I knew I wanted to change my major and obtain a 2nd degree in mathematics education, I could feel it in my chest like heat was about to burst through. I was toying with the idea and thinking of the pros and cons. I tend to bounce ideas with intuition and she says "stop making the stupid list and just make the change". If I continue to speculate, the imaginary alien begins to push its way though my chest cavity. I'll feel like I'm on fire and I can't sleep, eat, or do anything. Action must be taken quickly.

You see, I don't really care for feeling these things. Stress and the Ni-Fi loop is one hell of a place for your mind to exist.

Negative Change

This is when I am going to make a "loose cannon" decision. Like leaving a relationship into another one that has pitfalls that I can't foresee. By now, I should know if I can't envision myself in the change, something is amiss. Ignoring intuition and listening to someone who has more of their best interest at heart is a sure fire way to piss her off. If I begin to proceed with a bad decision, I can feel what resembles a punch in the stomach. It feels terrible.

That's not intuition it is FEAR.

Yes, I do experience fear. Especially with matters pertaining to emotions. But don't insult me. My primary cognitive function in intuition. I found websites with people proclaiming the difference between the two. Sometimes there are plenty of reasons to be afraid of choosing to do something incredibly foolish.

Aha Moment

Good ideas, brilliant ideas, and answers to hard to answer question present in this form. Since the mind is so quick and fleeting, intuition must communicate quickly. It feels like cold water. I'll even make a gasping for breath sound. Sometimes I will reflect on dreams or something someone said or did because intuition wants me to have a realization. If I scan without any luck, that's when she will hit me with it. She seems sadistic at times.

Environment Focus

This happens when I need to notice something. Like a student who is about to piss me off.  Feeling someone behind me. Quite a few times I will hear a doorbell or the phone ringing seconds before it actually happens. Hearing some one pull up in the drive way and no one is there and then watching headlights on a car as it creeps forward.
